Tasting Notes

The 2015 Carbonnieux has a crisp blackberry and bilberry scented bouquet with light pencil shaving aromas developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little pinched at the moment but with sufficient freshness on the finish. Not bad, but it needs a couple of years to knit together. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Score: 91+Neal Martin, vinous.com, July 2019

Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Carbonnieux is very earthy with fallen leaves, mossy bark and damp soil notions with a core of red currants and black raspberries plus a waft of wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate is firm, grainy and fresh with delicate red fruits and an earthy finish. 2019 - 2034

Score: 92Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate (Mid Februa), February 2018

The dark berry and iodine aromas are fascinating with bark and black tea undertones. Medium to full body, juicy fruit and a savory finish. Hints of tobacco and chocolate. A long time favorite. Drink in 2020.

Score: 93James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2018

The 2015 Carbonnieux is impressive. Dense and powerful in the glass, with layers of fruit and insistent, driving tannins, the 2015 has a lot to offer. Black cherry, smoke, scorched earth, licorice, cedar and game fuse together and all the elements are very nicely balanced in this impeccable Pessac-Léognan. 2020 - 2035

Score: 93Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, February 2018

Deep crimson. Finest of tannins framing dark, elegant fruit. Complete and refined, subtle but with the promise of a long life. Savoury, rocky graphite finish. (JH) 2022 – 2035

Score: 17.5Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, November 2017
