Charmes Chambertin, Domaine Claude Dugat 2017

Tasting Notes

A glorious bouquet of cherries, raspberries, vine smoke, licorice and loamy soil introduces the 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping wine that's deep, succulent and satiny textured, concluding with a long and lip-smacking finish. This is a Charmes that amply merits its name this year, and as I observed when tasting it from barrel, it will offer a wide drinking window.

A fresh, pure and relatively high-toned nose of elegant red currant, soft spice, rose petal and an agreeably subtle hint of wood. The sense of refinement continues onto the equally pure and well-detailed medium weight flavors that possess a caressing mouthfeel, all wrapped in a solidly complex and persistent finish that is firm but not so much so that this could not be approached young.
