A densely fruited and equally spicy if more restrained nose grudgingly displays liqueur-like aromas of plum, Asian-style spices, sandalwood, hoisin and an abundance of floral influences. The round and sleek large scaled flavors re rich to the point of opulence though underneath the baby fat is evident muscle and minerality, both of which gradually emerges as the hugely long finish sits on the palate. This is one very serious wine that will almost certainly require the better part of two decades, and perhaps even more, to arrive at its full peak.
The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru has a much more composed and refined, almost understated bouquet compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Red berry fruit, sous-bois, touches of sandalwood and bay leaf aromas develop in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Lively and full of tension, displaying just a touch of piquancy toward the spicy finish and a very long tail. A lovely Musigny, although you cannot help but be seduced by the more flattering Bonnes-Mares. 2024 - 2055
There are just over three barrels of the extraordinary 2018 Musigny Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) this year, a magical wine in the making that unwinds in the glass with a stunning bouquet of raspberries, cherries, blood orange, rose petals, violets and deep soil tones. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and complete, with an elegantly muscular and multidimensional core, lively acids and a long, intensely sapid finish.
