Jean-Marie Guffens is rightly proud of this special cuvée which "corresponds exactly to the sweet wine that I have always dreamed of making". There will be just 200 cases made in 100% new oak from concentrated juice that had a potential degee of 24.8.

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Les Dames de Bonneau is extraordinary, illustrating what was possible in this generally rather pedestrian vintage. Exhibiting aromas of caramelized pineapple, beeswax, grapefruit zest, confit citrus, white flowers and crisp stone fruit, it's full-bodied, textural and layered, with immense levels of concentration, vibrant flavors and an interminable, unerringly precise finish. With not far from 200 grams per liter of residual sugar, it should prove almost immortal; yet its remarkably low levels of free and combined sulfites mean that it is far more expressive at this stage than most wines from Sauternes-Barsac. Drink 2021-2118.

Located in Barsac, this estate was one of the last to pick at end of October/early November. Pale and bright gold colored, the 2018 Les Dames du Clos gives lifted, vibrant scents of peach preserves, orange marmalade, spice cake and jasmine, giving way to notes of fallen leaves and chalk dust plus a touches of allspice. Full, rich, bright and unctuous, it has wonderful freshness and a long spicy finish.

With a residual sugar of 189g/l, this is a thick, concentrated and powerful wine destined for very long term ageing. Heady and powerful on the nose, with ginger, honey and an almost golden syrup layer to dense pineapple and apricot fruit. The palate follows, with thick, unctuous fruit and heady sweet spices at the core. This has incredible denisty and unparalleled weight for the vintage. The finish is minutes long and bursting with honeyed fruit. One to lay down but that should reward patience.

This pure Semillon is a selection of the best parcels of Clos Bonneau. This wine's focus is concentration with 189g/l of residual sugar. A nose of ripe pineapple, with a rounded palate in which the minerality will only shine through in the long term.
