Meursault Perrieres, Bouchard Père et Fils 2017
Aromas of ripe lemons, praline, crushed chalk and white flowers introduce the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières, a medium to full-bodied, pure and chiseled wine with lovely mid-palate amplitude, a bright line of acidity and a chalky, tight-knit core. Like the Genevrières, this is one of the highlights from chez Bouchard this year.

Notes of matchstick and reduction push the underlying fruit to the background though I suspect that the nose will clean up with a few years of aging. Otherwise there is very good volume to the surprisingly lush, even opulent, middle weight flavors though there is plenty of the hallmark minerality suffusing the well-balanced bitter lemon-inflected finish. This could also be approached young.

The 2017 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru comes from 1.2 hectares of vine. It has a touch of reduction on the nose that makes it difficult to read at the moment. The palate is fresh on the entry, offering light orange pith, apricot and white peach notes. Slightly waxy in texture, with a spicy finish that lingers in the mouth. Fine. Drink 2021-2035.
