CDP Le Vieux Donjon, Le Vieux Donjon (Lucien Michel) 2017

Tasting Notes

The 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape won’t match the 2016, yet nevertheless, it’s a beautiful, elegant, classic wine. Garrigue, pepper, assorted dark fruits, and lavender notes all emerge from this balanced, medium to full-bodied effort that shines for its purity and elegance. It will come into its own with just short-term cellaring and keep for 10-15 years.

A prospective blend of Vieux Donjon's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape looked particularly strong. At 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the balance Mourvèdre and Cinsault, it reflects the vintage's poor fruit set in the Grenache and the strength of the Mourvèdre. It shows amazingly fresh, floral notes, bright strawberry and raspberry fruit, matched by full body, ample richness and length.
