Gigondas Clos des Tourelles, Perrin - Château de Beaucastel 2017

Tasting Notes

More red fruits, garrigue, spice, and obvious minerality define the 2017 Gigondas Clos des Tourelles, which comes from vines inside the village of Gigondas. It's full-bodied, elegant and seamless, with gorgeous purity of fruit, and fine yet certainly present tannin. It's going to drink beautifully out of the gate and keep for 10-15 years.

Rich and ripe on the nose, with spicy, peppery, redolent red fruits and a hint of dried herbs. The palate is chalky, with refnied tannins framing a full-bodied, ripe core of fruits. Layers of pepper and hedgerow bring savoury complexity to this smooth, plump, and polished Gigondas.

Produced from yields around 15 hectoliters per hectare, the 2017 Gigondas Clos des Tourelles is a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. It's full-bodied yet seemingly weightless, combining floral, rose-like aromas with raspberry flavors. It's intense and concentrated, while being focused and silky at the same time. It should be a beauty once it's bottled. 2020 - 2030

Cask sample. Much more lush and open than their L'Argnée. Generous, fleshy and satisfying. Really pretty red fruit with a floral border giving complexity. Finely woven tannins, gradual persistence. A standout.
