Tasting Notes

Very subtle lychee and Turkish-delight aromas. Cool, powerful and reserved, it is only showing the enormous strength of its hand at the long and sinuous finish. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

A perennial favourite at Farr Vintners, and the 2016 is no different. The flinty, reductive and spicy nose of dried herbs, peach blossom and acacia is both complex and enticing. The palate has an initial sweetness that justifies its "Indice 4" labelling, but the high acidity cuts through and refreshes the palate, with struck flint and layers of stone fruits coming through in waves. The palate has a chalky, visceral texture that adds to the body without losing tension. Through to the long finish there is an increasing spicy, peppery character that pairs well with notes of dried petals. Another triumph in pairing vineyard and variety.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, June 2018

An intense note of fir honey dominates the nose. The concentration and accuracy of that flavor, with its customary sweet bitterness, are astonishing. Underneath this, notions of ripe orange and candied citrus show on a very fluid, almost oily palate. Vivid lemon freshness stands against it and creates a sharp, delicious focus. This wine delivers an arresting juxtaposition of luscious richness and uncompromisingly sharp detail. Drink 2020–2035.

The 2016 Hunawihr Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl is flinty, clear and fresh on the coolish and concentrated nose. On the palate, this is a dense, medium sweet and well-concentrated Gewurtz with fine salinity and a tight, tensioned finish. This is a promising wine, firm and sensual, and it should be singing in a couple of years. 2022 - 2040
