Forget the dessert and just grab a half bottle of this stunning dessert wine. Plenty of concentration and an intense creme-brulee character, but it is neither as massive or as sweet as many of the previous vintages of this wine. This makes it very easy to enjoy. Drink or hold, and 20 years of aging is no a problem at all.
This year the Selection de Grains Nobles has 128g/l of residual sugar, light for the style and less than you would find in many Sauternes. Just 900 litres were made. The nose is honeyed, with pure peach, roasted apricot against garigue and white pepper. The palate is earthy, with notes of sweet marmalade from the botrytis. Despite the sweetness, the high acidity gives a fleet-footedness to the wine, and a purity of fruit. This drives through the mid palate to a long, fine finish, that fleshes out in sweet and exotic spices. Another benefit of the lower sugar level, is that this wine feels much more approachable than in other vintages, and can be enjoyed now, or at any point over the next two decades or more.
The 2016 Turckheim Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Sélection de Grains Nobles is clear yet a bit volatile on the nose with notes of quinces. On the palate, this is a fine, elegant, piquant and structured SGN with lots of lemon flavors. It's piquant, elegant, well concentrated and sweet but with nice bitters on the finish. 2026 - 2050
