Tasting Notes

Super smoky with enormous depth, but also incredibly precise and pristine with a salt, savory and mineral finish that doesn't want to stop. In spite of that unique personality and that there is a couple of decades of aging potential, it's so easy to enjoy right now. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.

Smoky mineral aromas waft from the glass of this pure, vibrant and finely meshed white, underscoring the palate’s nectarine and watermelon fruit, pickled ginger, floral and pink grapefruit pith flavors. The acidity is crystalline in structure, creating a fine frame, while minerality echoes on the mouthwatering finish. Best from 2020 through 2033

The nose here is very exotic and floral, with a complex and spicy nose that is very enticing. The palate is warm and dry, with a rich, rounded fruit profile cut through with notes of grapefruit and citrus. The 18 months on the lees add a creamy note and texture to the fruit that pushes it to lemon curd. The finish is long and very intense, building on the dense core from the palate. This is a powerful and dry wine, that should soften with a little bottle age.

The 2016 Alsace Grand Cru Rangen de Thann Riesling Clos Saint Urbain displays a luminous yellow color and a fascinating bouquet of perfectly ripe Riesling fruit intertwined with very particular smoky/flinty and spicy notes that add fascinating complexity, finesse and elegance. On the palate, this is a lush, powerful but also refined, finessed and silky-textured Riesling with stunning purity, mouth-watering salinity and great intensity of fruit and mineral expression. It is less powerful than in other years but very elegant and still powerful enough, so very well-dosed and absolutely stimulating already today. 2018 - 2040
