Ermitage Le Meal Rouge, Maison M. Chapoutier 2017

Tasting Notes

Always the earliest-ripening portion of the Chapoutier holdings on the Hermitage hill, the 2017 Ermitage le Méal is a complete standout. Crème de framboise notes remain fresh and lively throughout, joined by hints of blueberry, baking spices and vanilla, while the tannins are silky, the mouthfeel generous and the overall impression is one of great seductiveness and elegance.

Cask sample.
Much more closed on the nose than their Greffieux, but the palate is rich with glossy black fruit. Very savoury and tight in structure – but not austere thanks to generous fruit. Classic Hermitage with potency and longevity.

One of three potentially perfect Hermitage wines from Chapoutier this vintage, the 2017 Ermitage le Meal is absolutely seamless, delivering a whirl of lush fruit, ample structure and tremendous freshness and length on the finish. Crushed stone and pencil shavings frame the technicolor blueberry and cassis fruit, which picks up an added licorice note. Just a wow wine from start to finish. 2022 - 2040
