A masterpiece of delicacy! A complex and floral nose with just a hint of grapefruit zest. Concentrated but super elegant and very clean, this is a wine that demands and commands your full attention. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.
Pale lemon in colour, the nose here is expressive but subtle, eschewing the overt grapey aromas that can dominate Muscat in favour of subtle floral tones such as peach blossom. Just a touch of cream before a flinty reduction adds a zippy citrus tone. The palate offers a pithy, oily texture but is dry, with only 2g/l residual sugar. The fruit is citrus and stone, packed with floral lift from the bright acidity. There is a touch of struck match on the palate too, which adds a nice layer of complexity. Hints of acacia on the long finish round the wine out beautifully. This is precise, elegant and lifted.
The 2016 Alsace Grand Cru Goldert Muscat is based on 90% Muscat d'Alsace and 10% Ottonel. Fermented like the Rieslings, for one year and down to 12% alcohol and less than two grams of residual sugar, the 2016 offers a very clear, deep and fine bouquet with delicate, refreshingly mineral, floral and herbal (coriander, parsely) notes. On the palate, this is a very fine, elegant yet complex and persistent Muscat with a very long, stimulatingly salty and grippy finish. Nice bitters in the aftertaste make this Goldert an excellent wine with food. Tasted June 2018. 2018 - 2033
