Clos de la Roche, Chantal Remy (Louis Remy) 2011

Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The oak is a little unresolved on the nose of Remy’s Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2011: black rather than red fruit, undergrowth and attractive stem-like scents that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe and supple tannins. The acidity here is nicely judged and it builds gently towards a cohesive and poised, black pepper finish. Overall, I would be seeking just a little more complexity here, though it remains a decent grand cru -- one with its wings clipped.
