Tasting Notes

Made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and sashays out of the glass with beautiful red rose and violets scents over a core of baked blueberries, mulberries and plum preserves plus wafts of vanilla pod and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed full of perfumed black and blue fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Drink 2022-2053.

Very attractive aromas of violets, purple cherries and plums with notes of chocolate, cedar and baking spices. The palate has a fullish feel with very concentrated, ripe dark plums, wrapped in super long, silky tannins. Quite a deep, flavorful finish, holding long and fresh. Try from 2023.

No frost and an early-budding year allowed the fruit to ripen well on this 4.5ha clay and gravel estate. The coolish but dry summer still translates into fruit character that is powerful rather than exuberant, but it's well handled and extremely enjoyable, restrained but rather beautiful. The tight tannins will need a good six years before drinking.

Deepest crimson. Plenty of dark fruit but also a very slight herbaceous note, not unripe. Lots of finesse in the tannins here, real elegance, quite light on the mid palate but all in balance.

Depth of flavour the fruit is ripe sweet the palate has fleshy black plum fine tannins. The mid suppleness is underpinned by fresh black fruits balance and it fills out at the back sweet fruit depth of flavour. 2025-36

In 2017 Hosanna shows a very strict nose, palate and finish and all of these elements are seemingly controlled by the acidity. I rarely sense that this is an austere wine, but the dominant oak and straightjacketed fruit are at the mercy of the brutal acid on the finish and this rebounds and washes back over the palate. There is fruit here and it seems to be sweet and pure, but it is enslaved by the more structural elements in this wine and I don’t think it will find a way of escaping.

This shows a very long finish with pretty fruit and sophisticated tannins. Chewy and exciting.

A final blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose that simply sings of violets, chocolate-covered cherries and exotic spices with a core of crème de cassis, fragrant earth and blueberry pie plus a waft of wild thyme. The palate is medium to full-bodied, velvety, rich and seductive with tons of black and blue fruit layers, finishing with those exotic spices coming through.
