Tasting Notes

Philipponnat's 2007 Brut Clos de Goisses is soft, delicate and polished. One of the most understated, young Goisses I can remember tasting, the 2007 is a rare vintage that will drink well with pretty much no cellaring, which, as Goisses fans know, is highly unusual. Expressive in its aromatics and equally welcoming on the palate, the 2007 speaks to grace above all else. In 2007, bright Chardonnay-inflected notes are most apparent today, while the Pinot Noir is felt mostly in the wine's weight and overall texture. Even so, 2007 is a vintage that favors finesse over power. Dosage is 4.5 grams/liter. Disgorged: June 2016.

Score: 94Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, December 2016

A wine of remarkable finesse rather than power, the 2007 Philipponnat Brut Clos de Goisses boasts laser-like acidity and accuracy of flavor that are memorable. One of my favorite Champagnes, Clos de Goisses is usually a powerful bubbly in its youth, but this 2007 is rather politely-styled, almost delicate in fact, in its white fruit and floral aromas and flavors. Best of all, it is still exceptionally young and will last for decades in a proper cellar. 2018 - 2035

Score: 94+Ian d'Agata, Vinous Table (vinous.com), July 2018

Very lively and sinewy on the nose. Nicely tight bead and almost medicinal. Real character and starting to drink well.

Score: 17.5Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, November 2016

Extremely precise tensile acidity with gunflint, soy, vanilla, dry and lean citrus and pear fruit and just a faint note of eucalyptus leaf. The bead and texture is also fine and pure leading to a terrifically long finish. This will certainly age for 25 years plus and shouldn’t really be broached for another five.

Score: 95John Stimpfig, Decanter.com, October 2016

The 2007 Clos des Goisses Brut blends 65% Pinot Noir with 35% Chardonnay and opens with a bright, highly refined and complex bouquet of red fruits, fresh ginger and roasted hazelnuts. On the palate, this is a pure, highly refined and very mineral Clos des Goisses that reveals a long, complex, beautifully tensioned and iodine-laced finish. Just Beautiful! Drink 2021-2040.
