This tiny 6.68 hectare Pomerol estate has been on the up since proprietor Jeremy Chasseuil took back control in 2000 after a long standing lease with Moueix expired. With only a 1200 case production, it is worth looking out for en primeur in the good vintages.

Tasting Notes

A very assertive and handsomely ripe wine that has considerable richness and terrific balance and poise, as well as a phenomenal build of flavor and fine tannin at the finish. Great Pomerol. A blend of 93 per cent merlot and seven per cent cabernet franc.

The 2016 Feytit Clinet is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc aged for 16 months in 70% new and 30% one-year-old French oak barrels. It has a deep garnet-purple color with lifted blueberries and black cherries with hints of lilacs, black tea, potpourri, wood smoke and black soil. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, rich and bold with firm, rounded tannins, seamless freshness and a very long finish with chocolate hints. About 1,583 cases produced

This has drama and tension, with coffee, black cherry, blackberry and liquorice. It is definitely fairly old school in its extraction, which veers towards being heavy-handed, but the overall impact is rather enjoyable. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Lively and rich on the nose without much forcing. Really quite dramatic in 2016! Luscious yet with a framework.

Not quite as rich, sumptuous and seductive as the 2015, but this may just need more time to grow into itself. It’s quite a firm, chunky style, with some coffee bean oak, meaty tannins and a core of dark plum and damson fruit. 2026-38

The 2016 Feytit Clinet, a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, has such purity on the nose that you would almost consider this to be a Grand Cru Burgundy! It unfolds in the glass, black cherries mixed with raspberry coulis, just a little new oak to be integrated as it will during its barrel maturation. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe blackberry and bilberry notes, here certainly in Pomerol territory with sage and black truffle emerging towards the persistent finish. Jéremy Chasseuil has crafted a wonderful follow-up to the impressive 2015 Feytit-Clinet and I cannot wait to taste this from bottle.

This is layered and beautiful with blackberries, spices and hints of cedar. Full body, polished tannins and a gorgeous finish. Sexy. Better than 2015. Best ever?
