Tasting Notes

So much violet, licorice and berry character to this. Wonderful depth. Full body, dusty and chewy tannins and a persistent and intense finish. Layered mouthfeel. Drink in 2020.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Sleek oak and red-fruit nose. On the palate the oak takes the upper hand over the fruit at this moment, but the elegant, perfumed cherry fruit comes out on the finish.

Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, January 2017

Boasting contemporary lines and a generously extracted style, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli delivers an approach that will appeal to a wider circle of consumers, far outside hardcore Brunello enthusiasts. The bouquet peels off slowly with rich intensity and dark fruit notes of black cherry, plum, soft spice, tobacco and licorice. You don't get any of the bitter or thorny acidity that can sometimes make Brunello difficult to love, especially in its youth. This wine is appropriate for near or medium-term drinking.

Monica Larner, Wine Advocate (229), February 2017

Medium-deep garnet in colour, with a rich, earthy nose of leather, cherries, bramble fruit and garrigue. The palate is vibrant with crunchy cherry fruit and powdery but ripe tannins giving a juicy but crunchy texture that supports lightly leathery, earthy notes that build and add layers of complexity to the wine. Spicy fruit lingers on the finish which is savoury and lightly meaty, but the purity of fruit and tannin structure keeps this as a youthful but approachable wine.
