If the 2015 Auction Spätlese behaves as so many of its Rausch predecessors have done, this wine will be quite closed down come September when it is presented in Trier. But, at the time of my visit in March, the wine was really singing and showing all of its enormous potential. The bouquet is brilliant, offering up notes of fresh pineapple, lemon, a touch of the citrus oil to come, bee pollen, hauntingly ethereal botanical tones and again, really salty slate minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, medium-full, pure and laser-like in its focus, with stunning depth, ripe, racy acidity and seamless balance on the very long, nascently complex finish. I love the inner tension of this wine. This will be legendary Spätlese in the fullness of time!
This offers a gorgeous nose of cassis and minty herbs. The wine is delicately creamy yet full of life on the palate and leaves a stunning feel of herbs in the long and elegant finish. This is pure magic in the bottle! 2025-2045
