Clos Saint Denis, Domaine Arlaud 2013

The reduction is sufficiently strong that all that can be detected is the wood treatment. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is markedly finer than any of the other grand crus in the range thanks to the relatively fine if firm tannins that shape the finish. Even so this will clearly need time, in particular to develop more depth, as this is the least complex among the four domaine grand crus, at least at present. The 2013 Clos St Denis Grand Cru possesses an outstanding bouquet that has wonderful delineation and complexity, a melange of red and black fruit, each infused with mineral/cold stone scents. There is an effortless element about the palate that is harmonious and supremely focused. The filigree tannin and wrapped in a silky texture and there is frisson and energy on the finish. There is plenty of substance here and so it will deserve several years in bottle. It may merit a higher score in the future.
