Saint Veran 1er Jus, Domaine Guffens-Heynen 2015
There are a mere six barrels of this splendid St-Véran, the product of a gentle first pressing by Guffen's adapted Coquard press. Green and red apple, crisp melon and smoke mingle in an inviting bouquet, leading into a juicy, sapid palate of typical textural refinement and impressive length.

Bright yellow. Musky ripe apple, peach and spices on the nose; more open than the Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne. Plush and sweet, but with terrific acidity and thrust to its apple and ripe pear flavors. A powerful, chewy 2015 with terrific inner-mouth lift and energy, but more harmonious today than the Mâcon-Pierreclos 1er Jus de Chavigne. Finishes tactile, dusty and long, with notes of apple pie spices and lemon zest. 2019 - 2026

Just 150 cases were made of this wine, taken from first pressings of Jean-Marie Guffens' top vineyards in Saint-Veran. The result is a peach blossom, ripe pineapple and apricot nose with hints of sweet vanilla. The palate is exotic, rich and viscous with superb concentration of juicy peach and apricot. The full bodied, powerful fruit is given texture by creamy, buttery notes and spicy oak, but there is still balancing acidity. This is open and approachable now with great intensity on both the nose and palate.
