Tasting Notes

Immediate depth to the aromas of dark cherries, plums and blackberries with subtly spicy and cedary oak amid stony, minerally accents. The palate has immense depth and presence without relying on brute force. This is all about charm and fluidity. Superb wine. Try from 2023.

Lascombes 2015 is medium to deep garnet in color. It is a little broody to start, opening out to deliver notes of warm cassis, black cherry compote, and fruit cake plus hints of charcoal and violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with juicy black fruits, supported by fine-grained tannins and just enough freshness, with a fragrant finish.

Tasted blind. Second bottle: Sweet and round and utterly pleasing. Easy minerality. Chewy end.

Rich and ripe on the nose the palate is fleshy and supple with ripe black fruits. Tighter in the middle firm tannins and a mineral edge yet it fills out at the back rich and generous on the finish.

Lascombes is plush and buoyant on the nose and palate and I was expecting it to fade when it fact it just kept on going.
Not the most complex wine and a little too oak-scented, it is still a much more successful offering than many Margaux.
The finish is closed and cool, but not raw, and this is a very good sign. It will drink well over two decades and I am very
satisfied with the texture above all of its traits which shows very sensitive extraction.

The 2015 Lascombes has a dense, rich bouquet with licorice and cigar box-infused black fruit and a touch of wilted violet. It feels rather tight-fisted compared to its peers in the Margaux appéllation. The palate is very smooth on the entry, plenty of new oak here, balanced but for want of a better word, missing some personality - especially on the finish that feels just a little labored. Drink 2019-2032.

This is so powerful and rich with fantastic depth of fruit and tannin structure. Full body, chewy yet polished in impressive. Stretches the limit on tannin extraction but it’s all there. Should develop beautifully in the barrel.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, March 2016

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Lascombes has a beautiful nose of black forest cake, violets, cassis and tilled soil with wafts of garrigue and potpourri. Medium-bodied, very fine and elegant with great intensity of restrained, earthy flavors, it has a long, savory finish. 2021 - 2039

Deep lustrous crimson. Quite penetrating aroma but still too sweet to be seriously refreshing! Hint of California chocolate here plus quite a bit of acidity.

Dark purple. A little bit of wood shavings on the nose of this, as in the second wine. Very sweet palate entry without quite the energy of some of the most successful Margaux but it is certainly dramatic. Some will love its full-on impact. Tastes a bit alcoholic.
