Tasting Notes

Layered and juicy 2015 with currants, light chocolate and cedar character. It’s full-bodied, round-textured and very pretty. Extremely long and flavorful. So friendly and bright. Drink or hold.

Still majoring on primary fruit aromatics at 7 years old. There is a precision and a silkiness to the tannins and structure that means the black cherry and raspberry fruits remain taut and almost austere at first, before deepening out through the mid palate, gathering together richer nuances of oyster shell, cocoa bean, espresso. Great texture and depth of expression, and will really benefit from another 3 to 5 years in bottle. 70% new oak.

A wine that overdelivers in the appellation is the 2015 Château Langoa Barton which is largely Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 38% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Brought up in 60% new oak, it boasts a deep purple color and smokin’ good notes of caramelized cherries, crème de cassis, toasty oak, and graphite. Big, full-bodied, concentrated, and structured, with awesome purity of fruit as well as notable elegance, it needs 3-4 years of bottle age and will keep for two to three decades. Bravo! 2021 - 2051

Langoa Barton 2015 is medium to deep garnet in color. It soars from the glass with expressive redcurrant jelly and warm cassis scents, followed by nuances of candied violets, chocolate box, and wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate is still showing a little oak with delicate berry layers and a soft texture, finishing with lovely freshness.

Tasted blind. Glowing deep crimson. Very lifted nose. Just a hint of coconut-oil oak but everything else is very exciting. Round, with the (substantial, ripe) tannins well covered. Real energy here. Interesting vegy aftertaste.

Bramble freshness on the nose the start of the palate is light and bright. Richer black fruits in the middle cassis and black cherry more depth of flavour and although fresh at the back nervy with hints of spice it builds towards the finish with rich black cherry.

Both the Barton wines are impressive in 2015, with this one just the lighter of the two. It’s
still got plenty of structure and oak, but the elegance of the patrician Cabernet is very pure
and transparent here. Drink: 2022-30

A crisp, vital wine with punch and excitement, this is not a lusty, rich Langoa but a tense, nervy style with great line and length. The fruit is a shade lighter than in 2014 and yet it will be a longer-lived wine. Good effort.

The 2015 Langoa Barton is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc picked between 19 September and 5 October, matured in 60% new oak. It has a slightly smudged bouquet at first, a mixture of red and black fruit, a little sous-bois and tobacco developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with gently grippy tannin, veering more towards red fruit here, but laced with tobacco and cedar notes. The finish is austere and perhaps mean at the moment, so hopefully it will develop more flesh by the time of bottling. I must confess that I cannot remember tasting Langoa next to Léoville Barton at this stage and finding such a disparity between the two wines, attested by tasting the 2014s just afterwards and finding them closer together in terms of quality. Drink 2021 - 2035.

Very ripe and fruit with lots of mature berry and plum character. Full body, round tannins and a savory finish. Juicy.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, March 2016

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Langoa Barton is scented of cedar and Marmite toast with black fruit and fertile earth notes. The medium-bodied palate is oaky with a good fruit core, fine-grained tannins and nice freshness on the finish. 2019 - 2033

Almost timid on the nose, this wine is so polite. After you … Quite a bit of acidity compared with some. Very straight-backed rather than full of pleasure. Just depends on your preferred style - but this certainly builds towards an impressive finish.
