Lots of minerals and stones here. Full-bodied with phenolic tension and lime, lemon and chalk flavors. Layered and joyous. Just the right lees stirring. Why wait? Drink now.
This is effectively a combined second wine of Chateau Haut-Brion Blanc and La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which prior to 2009 was known as Les Plantiers du Haut-Brion. A blend of 27% Sauvignon Blanc and 73% Semillon and redolent of ripe peaches, pink grapefruit and baking bread with touches of orange blossoms and crushed stones, the intense, satiny textured 2015 La Clarté de Haut-Brion Blanc offers up a lively palate laced with mineral accents and finishing with impressive persistence. 2019 - 2027
Very sweet Sémillon nose - almost honey! A hint of cat - very mineral. The Sémillon is all on the nose at the moment and the palate seems dominated by Sauvignon character. Lots to chew on. 14.6%
Drink 2020-2027
Looking first at the whites, the 2015 La Clarte de Haut Brion comes from the lots that didn’t make the cut for both the Haut Brion Blanc and the La Mission Haut Brion Blanc. Nevertheless, it’s a seriously good wine in its own right and readers looking for a great introduction into the whites from Bordeaux, and the Dillon team, should check this out. Exotic notes of lychee, white grapefruit, and caramelized citrus all flow to a medium-bodied, fresh, elegant, yet concentrated white that has bright acidity and a great finish. 2018 - 2028
The nose is floral with a mix of citrus fruits the start of the palate bright with fresh limes. On the mid palate a fruit salad of tropical fruits gives richness and depth the sweetness though balanced by underlying grapefruit freshness.
This is “only” the second white wine of Haut-Brion, but it’s not far behind the Grand Vin (and
considerably easier to get hold of). Pale, textured and stony with a Chablis-like note of oyster
shell, subtle oak, some green herbs and a sappy, smoky finish. Drink: 2017-23
With a touch of resin and some mint leaf Mojito tang this is a very tart and very zesty Clarté with massive acidity and a long finish. I worry that the wine will perhaps run out of steam before the acid fades. Either way it is a very severe wine which will always have an edge.
A solid wine with sliced apple and pear aromas and flavors. Full body and energetic. Lively. Second wine of Haut-Brion and La Mission.
