Gevrey Chambertin Lavaux Saint Jacques, Domaine Duroché 2014

Tasting Notes

Noticeable wood fights a bit with the notably denser and slightly riper if otherwise similar nose. There is more volume and more intensity to the broad-shouldered, robust, detailed and mineral-driven flavors that culminate in an overtly powerful, highly complex and strikingly long if slightly austere finish. This is quite firm but not hard and should drink well after only a few years of age thanks to the abundant amount of dry extract. This too is very much worth your interest.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques has a simple, quite juicy bouquet with ample fruit—cranberry, wild strawberries and a touch of orange peel. It seems to coalesce and gain harmony with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, ripe tannin and a fine line of acidity, quite pure and juicy with a primal, black plum and white pepper-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine indeed, but it will need another couple of years and then it may deserve a higher score. Stylish and traditional Lavaut-Saint-Jacques from Domaine Duroché. Tasted September 2017. Drink Date 2019 - 2029
