Vosne Romanée Les Beauxmonts, Domaine Hudelot-Noellat 2013

Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts has a loose-knit bouquet: brambly red fruit infused with decaying autumn leaves and a touch of tea leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black cherry and black plum fruit, sweet in the mouth with good volume, plus wonderful salinity here that leaves the mouth "tingling" long after the wine has departed. This is top class, one of the wines from this premier cru in this vintage. Tasted September 2016.

A notably floral nose exhibits plenty of spice elements on the fresh and airy nose of pomegranate and red currant aromas. I like the detail, intense minerality and punch of the vibrant and beguilingly textured medium weight flavors that also possess a hint of blood orange on the persistent if slightly edgy and drying finish. As my predicted range would suggest I expect the finish to harmonize but it's not a given and hence the addition of a question mark. I will revisit this from bottle next year so as to provide you with a more definitive review.
