Pale lemon colour. This has a fantastic nose, with struck flint, gun smoke, ripe lemons, green apple and a mineral petrichor note that is very enticing. The palate is dry and has a wonderful chalky texture, given real zip by the acidity and depth from lemon peel, flint, and layers of green fruits. Very long, pure, and mineral on the excellent finish. This has superb character and length, but needs time in the bottle to hit its peak. When it does, it will be a spectacular wine.
N.B. Indice 1
From the late ripening top of the Muschelkalk slope and 39-year-old vines, the 2013 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl opens with a deep, very clear, subtle, smoky, lemony, and floral bouquet with wet stone aromas, and the precision of a great Riesling. Full-bodied, fresh, very elegant and mineral on the palate, this pure, extremely focused, austerely mineral and highly complex wine does not have a single gram of fat and finishes with a fantastic grip, and a very long and salty aftertaste. This sleeper is probably one of the greatest and most tension-filled dry 2013 Rieslings I have tasted from this vintage, Austria and Germany included. A Must Buy for all Riesling freaks.
