Tasting Notes

The 2014 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc has an attractive bouquet with scents of lemon rind, yellow flowers and pine kernels. The oak is neatly integrated here. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity and a brisk, saline finish. This shows great potential, to drink now if you are inclined, or tuck away for several years. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2019 - 2030

Score: 92Neal Martin, vinous.com, March 2018

The 2014 Malartic-Lagraviere Blanc fulfils its potential that it showed in barrel. It has a well-defined and mineral-driven bouquet with light granitic aromas, a touch of sunflower seed and citrus peel. The palate is very well balanced with beautiful citrus fruit laced with nectarine, white peach and apricot. It feels very harmonious in the mouth, long and persistent, the aftertaste delivering a dash of spice that will put a smile on your face and leave you reaching for another sip of this excellent Pessac-Léognan Blanc. Drink date 2018 - 2035

Score: 94Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Interim En), April 2017

The Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc 2014 is a tentative blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sémillon that represents around half of the total crop. Picked between 10 and 26 September, yields were 36 hectoliter per hectare and after a ten-day cold settling it is currently being matured in 60% new wood, the remainder one-year old. It has a lively and energetic bouquet surfeit with dewy green apple, wet limestone and citrus scents - already vivacious and demanding the imbiber's attention. The palate is fresh and crisp with a keen line of acidity, vibrant citrus fruit with a linear, poised, marine-influenced finish, as might be befitting the label! Excellent.

Score: 91/93Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (218), April 2015

This is really impressive with complex aromas of cream, apples, pears and stones that follow through to a full body, ripe fruit and an intense, zesty aftertaste. Drink now or hold.

Score: 95James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2017

Beautiful intensity of sliced limes, slates, stones and citrus. This is a serious white as always.

Score: 92/93James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, March 2015

The 2014 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc is a dense, powerful wine endowed with serious depth. Green apple, pear and lemon peel give the wine its citrus and floral-inflected notes, but the 2014 has a real sense of gravitas and palate weight that is typical of so many whites in this vintage. The blend is 90 % Sauvignon Blanc and 10 % Sémillon. Tasted two times.

Score: 91Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, February 2017

Malartic Lagraviere now make one of Bordeaux's top dry white wines from their 7 hectares of vineyard which are planted with 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Pale lemon colour. This has a very peachy, ripe stone fruit nose. Good viscosity and richness on the palate that gives weight to the ripe core of stone fruits and is balanced by fresh acidity. Good length on a lightly spicy, creamy finish from measured use of oak.

Score: 16Farr Vintners, March 2015

Juicy and friendly in feel, with lemon gelée, star fruit, white peach and honeysuckle notes that pick up a zing of white ginger through the finish. Lots of fun. Drink now through 2019. 1,500 cases made.

Score: 90James Molesworth, WineSpectator.com, February 2017

Fresh and fragrant the nose is bright the start of the palate citrusy. Pineapple, tropical fruits the mid palate has depth of flavour richness sweetness but at the back cut apple and lime refresh the long and flinty finish. 2016-23
