The 2014 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche saw seven months in 25% new wood, then transferred into concrete tanks on the lees. It has a strict, quite stony bouquet, more austere than other 2014 releases and nicely focused. There is a sense of energy here, but also control. The palate is bright and citric on the entry, gaining weight and concentration in the mouth with just a light brush of honey towards the intense, powerful finish. This is another very impressive Mâconnais from Verget and it has the substance to last 10-12 years. Drink 2016-2028.
Generous wood along with vanilla notes presently fight somewhat with the copiously citrus-inflected nose that displays a pretty array of various white orchard fruit aromas. There is outstanding volume and almost painful intensity on the mouth coating and mineral-driven flavors that terminate in a clean, dry and focused finale. While this is more overtly wooded than I personally prefer, this is clearly a wine of quality.
Delicate citrus nose; has finesse. Fresh and brisk palate that is quite concentrated and limpid: has ample weight without being heavy. Spicy, invigorating and long.
South-east facing with lots of shallow limestone. 25% new oak. Much tenser than most. Very much a long-term wine. Wonderful transparency.
