Representing co-fermented, 100% vendange entier Syrah-Grenache, and tasted from the 1,300-liter Stockinger round and 1,500 liter oval foudres in which its totality matures, the Clos Marie 2010 Coteaux du Languedoc Pic Saint-Loup Les Glorieuses delivers a floral profusion (rose, wisteria, iris); saliva gland-liberating salinity; deeply rich red meatiness; and detonative, reverberative interaction of concentrated dark berries with peat and stone that left me practically dizzy. Nut oils, herbal essences, iodine, and iron filings add to the dazzling complexity on exhibit in this finely-textured example of the dynamic equilibrium of richness and vivacity, density and refinement that is singularly possible in 2010. Look for the better part of two decade’s attentive enjoyment and wonder.
