The 2001 Barolo Sarmassa (magnum) flows onto the palate with crushed rose petals, truffles, spices and sweet herbs. It shows gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and depth through to the round, opulent finish. The Sarmassa has aged quite gracefully. There is more than enough rich, dark fruit to support another two decades of very fine drinking. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2026.
