Rivesaltes, Marquis de Boaca 1955

Tasting Notes

The 1955 Marquis de Boaca, which here comes from one of the three demi-muids, offers impressive intensity on the nose with marmalade, licorice and star anise that is very well-defined. The palate is ripe and sensual on the entry, caressing the mouth with lovely red plum, strawberry, toffee and fig toward the finish. This is composed and harmonious, tender but intense. Drink now-2025.

An immediately aromatic, smoky, rich nose of Assam tea, dates, liquorice and dried plums here. Very enticing. The palate is rich and full, with intense ripe plum, fig tatin, and dried red fruits. Complexity rises in spicy nutmeg and cinnamon tones on the very long finish. Absolutely delicious, with real balance from a streak of acidity refreshing the sweetness.

Very dark brownish . Treacle nose. Very rich and intense. Great sweetness. A big wine! Massively much darker than the 1964. Maybe more black grapes? Lots of excitement. Prune juice plus subtlety and freshness.

"Absurdly Brilliant" - Matthew jukes.

Matthew Jukes, February 2017

Mahogany/amber colour, more brown than red but vibrant looking, very rich and nutty nose, slight lift of acidity with orange peel and more than a touch of rancio, very fresh and rich for 59 years old with great internal sweetness and energy for another 50 years.
