From their most notoriously heat- and botrytis-trapping site, the Humbrechts’ 2005 Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Vendange Tardive exudes peach, honey, caramel, litchi and blond tobacco in the nose and on the palate, combining extremely honeyed botrytis character with striking purity of flavors and refinement of texture. There is a Gewurztraminer-like intensity of spice and suggestion of litchi in this wine’s long, honeyed finish. I would not plan on revisiting it for at least five years and anticipate 15-20 years of potential.
