Tasting Notes

The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 d'Armailhac displays a gorgeous perfume of spice box, coffee, cedar, licorice, and leather scents. Sexy, with loads of fruit, medium body, and sweet tannin in the smoky, flamboyant finish, it will drink well for 12-15 years.Last tasted, 3/02.

Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

gorgeous aromas of blackberries, violets and currants lead to this full bodied wine with velvety tannins. Lovely finish delivers a juicy berry aftertaste. One of the best buys of the vintage. Best after 2004.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator (31/3/2), March 2002

An outstanding sample: this wine woofs with ample sweet, soft blackcurrant dusted with black pepper.

Andrew Jefford, Decanter.com (6/2000), June 2000

This is an up and coming Pauillac estate that is making better and better wines. Moreover, they remain realistically priced.Potentially the finest d'Armailhac yet produced, this blend of 42% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 23% Cabernet Franc reveals a roasted coffee, black currant, cedary, toasty bouquet, fleshy, fat, succulent flavors, medium to full body, abundant glycerin, ripe tannin, and low acidity. It is a hedonistic Pauillac fruit bomb that should become more delineated before bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2017.

Seductive, plump, ripe, creamy-textured...Succulent.
