Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Moulin Riche has a stubborn nose at first. The aromatics are tightly knit: cranberry and strawberry, cedar and a touch of cigar box. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin, well-judged acidity, a dab of white pepper and a satisfying, easygoing, tobacco finish that tapers away a little too quickly. Otherwise, this is a decent Moulin Riche to drink over the next 6-8 years. Tasted January 2016.

The Moulin Riche is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc and delivers 13.2% alcohol. It is already quite ripe and voluptuous on the nose, which is atypical for the vintage. It is nicely defined and composed. The palate is full-bodied with slightly "furry" tannins. There is plenty of plump dark plum and blackberry fruit laced with black pepper with a dense, comparatively opulent finish. This is a very decent second wine from Didier Cuvelier. Tasted April 2013.
