Tasting Notes

Deep ruby/plum/purple with sweet black cherries, blackcurrants and spice, the wine is medium-bodied, possesses good softness and a gentle lushness to the tannins. Not terribly complex, but it’s certainly well-made. This should drink well for 7-10 years. Drink 2015-2025

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (218), April 2015

This straightforward cru bourgeois exhibits some herbaceousness and damp earth-like notes along with medium-bodied flavors of dusty black cherries and earthy currants. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (206), April 2013

Tasted as a barrel sample at the château. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, the Capbern Gasqueton has a fragrant nose with nicely controlled red berry fruit and nicely integrated oak. It becomes more floral with aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps a little rustic on the spicy opening. The tannins are forward and firm with a bold slightly peppery finish. It does not quite have the finesse of the 2010 but it should have plenty of character. Tasted April 2013.

Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, May 2013

Vivid ruby colour with a purple hue at the rim, this wien has a nose of blueberry and black cherry with a hint of floral violets. The palate is bright, round and soft with 2012's elegant, ripe tannins. The floral, lifted edge to the fruit makes this moreish a fresh. Already drinking well with a hint of toasty oak on the finish.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, September 2016

This 38 hectare property in Saint Estephe is owned and managed by the Gasqueton family of Calon Segur. 26 are in production and the average age of the vines is 20 years old. This is the second vintage of this good value cru bourgeois to be vinified in the new cellars built just behind the church in St.Estephe.
