Tasting Notes

A plum/garnet evolved color leads to a relatively superficial, fruity wine with medium body, pleasant flavors, but no real persistence, depth, or complexity. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Beychevelle remains the most conspicuous under-achiever in the otherwise brilliant appellation of St.-Julien.

Drink 2012-20 Toasty, thick and sweet. Flattering with an overlay of cocoa. Much more solid than most wines so far.

Jancis Robinson MW, Farr Tasting, October 2009

This elegant, attractive, light to medium-weight Bordeaux exhibits firm tannin and a touch of astringency along with a dark ruby/plum color and aromas of cedar, black currants, earth, oak, and underbrush. It is questionable whether the firm tannin will completely melt away before the fruit fades. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2014
