Tasting Notes

The first wine in the series where the colour is beginning to evolve. Still clear and bright but with some orange notes. The bouquet suggests that this is approaching its zenith with some leafier notes on top of still vigorous red fruit. Much more youthful on the palate, so give this a few more years, though there is some evolution at the edges. Firm Clos Vougeot tannins, then little red raspberry fruit to finish. 13.5% alcohol. Tasted: March 2022

Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, April 2021

A softly wooded nose where there is a touch of toast frames earthy, reticent and ripe aromas of pungent earth, dark berry fruit and plum. There is excellent concentration to the velvety and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract, indeed to the point that this seems less structured than it really is though it's not so much that the hallmark youthful austerity of a fine Clos de Vougeot is effaced. As would be expected from this terroir in an excellent vintage, this will require plenty of cellar time to resolve the tannins and flesh out but it should be more than worth the wait.
