Tasting Notes

Here the nose is quite similar to that of the Latricières with its highly restrained and distinctly cool animale-infused red berry fruit and stone scents. The rich, focused and intense broad-shouldered flavors possess an overt muscularity and plenty of raw power. The palate impression is very, very serious, even brooding and this will also require the better part of two decades to reach what should be a formidable peak. The best in show today.

Bright, deep red. High-toned, captivating aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice and exotic spices. Lush on entry, then vibrant in the middle, with a peppery minerality washing over the palate. Impressively dense but extremely unevolved today, this grand cru's wake-up call of a finish stimulates the taste buds with a flavor of fruity Tellicherry pepper. (My sample of Potel's Clos de Beze had been pulled from barrel a few days prior to my visit and was not fresh enough to assess with confidence.)
