A fresh and relatively expressive nose speaks of both red and blue pinot fruit, earth and a touch of underbrush that is also reflected by the detailed and impressively concentrated flavors that possess more mid-palate density than I usually find with this wine, all wrapped in a powerful and hugely long finish that, rather than displaying youthful austerity, is silky. This is one of the better young Méo Clos de Vougeot of recent years.
Tasted from pre-prepared samples at the Domaine. This has a lovely lifted bouquet with ripe cherry, orange-blossom and strawberry aromas: very feminine and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, good grip and persistency with grippy, masculine tannins. Great precision and swarthiness towards the finish that reminds me of a tightly-wound Musigny. Excellent. Tasted November 2010.
