Tasting Notes

The Zind-Humbrecht 2008 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl smells of decadent rose, orange blossom, thyme, and cooked celery root, setting the scene for a caressing, glycerin-rich, liquidly floral and (at 12.8% alcohol) relatively buoyant palate impression. A savory suffusion of mineral salts serves for mouth-watering enticement to the next sip as well as - together with admirable acidity - a sense of primary juiciness and genuine refreshment to this wine's lingering finish. This should make for persistent fascination and elegance over the next couple of decades.

(12.8% alcohol, 56 g/l r.s. and 5.2 acidity) Bright yellow-gold. Complex, musky aromas of orange blossom and flowers lifted by a note of calcaire Fat, lush, sweet and opulent; almost surprisingly creamy after the energy of the nose. This very full and generous wine seems quite accessible right now, due in part to its moderate alcohol. Floral in the middle palate and quite spicy on the aftertaste.

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, December 2010

Hints of licorice and jasmine add depth to the candied grapefruit peel, mandarin orange and juicy Gala apple flavors in this honeyed Gewürztraminer, while spice and tangy acidity create an overall elegant impression, with a smoky finish. Drink now through 2018. 300 cases made.

Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator, October 2010

The nose is extremely expressive with peaches, lychees and more than a hint of rose petals. The palate has viscosity and rich fruit which is tempered by a backbone of refreshing acidity that runs right through this wine. Whilst this is intense and seriously complex, it is also light of touch and the residual sugar is balanced perfectly by the acidity. Not in any way cloying, this is simply superb.
