Tasting Notes

Black cherry and fresh mushroom, with hints of currants and sweet tobacco. Full- bodied, with chewy, yet polished tannins. Lovely berry and cherry. Racy and pretty. So delicious now. Second wine of Rauzan-Segla. Try in 2016.

Screwcapped second wine of Ch Rauzan Ségla. Farr were the first and exclusive importers of it under this stopper. More than half of production is this second wine at this property. Minerally. Fine and dense and upright. Real structure here. Bravo! Drink 2015-2022

Screwcap and cork closures tasted blind side by side.
From cork:
Deep ruby colour. The nose is ripe with black cherry and a little blackcurrant, but also showing hints of sweet spice from new oak, dried flowers, and slight cedar development. Enticing and complex. The palate is smooth, ripe and round with the tannins melted into the wine. Ripe black cherry, violets and hints of cassis are layered with nutmeg and cedar on a long finish. Super silky with no hard edges.

From screwcap:
Deep ruby colour. Very aromatic, pure black fruit nose of cassis, black cherry and black plum. Full of pure dark fruit at the core, with a little smoke from the oak. The palate is fresh and vibrant, with layers of ripe black fruit structured by ripe, soft tannins. There is a real lift and elegance to this wine, which has perfect balance and precision. Long and still showing a wonderful youthfulness of fruit, this is a vibrant, juicy, delicious wine.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, October 2015

Deep red colour in a wine with real quality and class along with a lovely, juicy fun side. Approachable now but will happily sit in a cellar for a while waiting for you. It's also the first and only screw-capped Segla so it'll be nice and easy to open!

Opened from a bottle under screwcap. The colour is deep ruby in the glass. The nose is very aromatic with lots of floral notes and ripe blackcurrant and black cherry fruit. The palate is showing hints of development in leather and cedar that complement the ripe, round, plump fruit core. Layers of black cherry are lifted by notes of violet and cocoa with a little sweet spice. The tannins are very silky and fully integrated into the wine, making this an absolutely delicious drink right now, with all that delicious, ripe fruit lingering on the finish.

Farr Vintners, Farr Tasting, September 2015

We were delighted when John Kolasa agreed to bottle a proportion of his production of Segla 2009 under screwcap for us. These are perfect and practical for restaurant and private customers alike and guaranteed free of cork taint. Segla is one of the best 2nd wines in the Médoc in our opinion and we've sold many thousands of cases of previous vintages. The quality level is thanks to an extremely rigorous selection process whereby only 50% of the Chateau's production is selected for the grand vin. The best of the rest is then used for this label. In 2009 the wine is as good as, or maybe even better than, ever.
