Tasting Notes

The Domaine de Combes has a fragrant nose, not quite as pixelated as the Roc de Combes, but offering pure dark cherry, dark plum and bergamot scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry: cranberry, raspberry leaf and a touch of pomegranate. The acidity is taut and the tannins fine and edgy towards the finish that has a pleasant bitter edge. Very fine. Tasted November 2012.

Deep ruby colour. Exotic and spicy on the nose, with nutmeg, clove, dark chocolate, coconut and ripe bramble fruits at the core. The palate is luscious and ripe, with polished and refined tannins gently framing the bursting black fruit at the core. This is soft and approachable for a 2010, already in its drinking window and offering waves of ripe black cherry and sweet baking spices. More savoury, toasted spices build through onto the finish that is long and driven by pure cassis fruit. Great power and complexity, a lot of wine for the money. Now-2030+.
