La Romanée, Bouchard Père et Fils 2000

Tasting Notes

This is classic young La Romanée in style with its tight, reserved, borderline austere black fruit beautifully framed in Vosne spice and a deft touch of new wood. The rich, medium weight flavors offer outstanding flavor intensity and are supported by firm tannins that presently dominate the mid-palate but not the finish. This is a very big wine, in fact one of the biggest wines of the vintage and this should be purchased only with the clear intent to cellar it. Classy, extremely complex and altogether fine delivered in a very understated style. It isn't quite at the same level as the incredible '99 but it is a worthy successor. Don't miss it!
