Tasting Notes

Pink grapefruit, banana, cassis and lily perfume announce the extreme ripeness of fruit that informed the Prums' 2009 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spatlese. Juicy and extroverted on the palate, it packs a sense of sassy brightness that perfectly compliments any tendency toward extravagant or over-indulgent ripeness. As to your being over-indulgent by drinking some, I'd say, "yes, you would be - fortunately." I see no need to wait for a half dozen years to approach this. On the other hand, if you wait 25, this wine will still be waiting for you and in good shape.

(Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese) AP: 04 16. This 2009er Himmelreich Spätlese was left in cask until it was bottled and released commercially in 2016. It offers a gorgeous nose of melon, pear, ripe white peach and flowers. The wine is subtly delicate, with a gentle touch of acidity lifting up a playful and beautifully fruity feel on the palate. This is beautiful in a slightly riper style than usual for the Estate but fully in line with the vintage. The telltale Prüm airiness and freshness come through in the airy after-taste. While enjoyable now, this will improve steadily over the coming years and could possibly even surprise us at maturity. 2019-2034
