A high-toned, fresh, pure and elegant mélange of red and blue fruit plus and violet notes that introduces medium weight flavors oozing with extract on the fresh, vibrant, focused and minerally finish that possesses real drive, excellent precision and a touch of youthful austerity. This harmonious effort is one to strongly consider. Recommended.
Tasted at the IMW horizontal at Vintners Hall. This is still rather closed on the nose, but reluctantly offers wild hedgerow, damp moss and sous-bois scents. Nice definition, with a hint of cold granite developing with time in the glass. The palate has good 'matiere' bolstered by firm, almost foursquare tannins, comparatively good weight with blackberry, dark plum, a touch of smoke and cooked meats coming through. Very good persistency towards the finish but I feel that this may closed down. This is an impressive wine from Etienne. Drink 2011-2025. Tasted March 2009.
Black tea, brown spices, dark berries, and musky floral perfume as well as mammalian and forest floor scents rise impressively and complexly from the glass of Grivot 2006 Vosne Romanee Les Beaumonts. In the mouth, this is polished and refined as well as correspondingly multifaceted. For all of its smoothness as well as its carnal and mineral elements, though, this doesn't lack for ample, refined tannins, and captures a vivid sense of fresh fruit, along with a corresponding cut and refreshment of finish. It is a prime example of 2006 virtues that Grivot adumbrated in conversation, accessible but through-provoking; vivacious yet richly-textured. It should merit attention for at least a decade.
