Tasting Notes

The 2009 de Malle has a gorgeous bouquet of clarified butter, yellow flowers and lemon curd that bursts from the glass - stylistically not a million miles away from Climens. The palate is very sweet and candied on the entry. It needs more bite and race and perhaps I would prefer less residual sugar towards the finish. But it remains balanced and offers a delicious, easy-drinking Sauternes that should age with style. Drink now-2030.

Attractive aromas and flavors of sliced apple, pear and honey. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, with a spicy botrytis and fruit finish.

Deep gold. Sweet, candied violets on the nose. Fresh and precise on the front palate. Masses of weight and sweetness. Still a baby but it promises well. A rather burnt element to it, in an interesting way. Savoury, dry finish. Serious stuff that should repay a considerable wait. Long. Date tasted 29th March 2010. Drink 2020-2035.

Less marked by the 2009 'rôti' of the best ones ('rôti' meaning the sensation of ultra-botrytised berries), on the reductive side, with a small amount of bitterness, interesting fruit but on the basis of this sample, not complete wine.
