Tasting Notes

Another brilliant effort from the Frey family, the 2007 La Lagune reveals a beautiful layered mouthfeel with lots of plum, black cherry, and kirsch liqueur-like notes intermixed with a spicy character. Medium-bodied, broad, and savory with beautiful purity and overall equilibrium, this beauty should be drunk over the next 7-8 years. Drink 2010-2018.

Some berry character, with medium body, firm tannins and a light finish. Little lean

Medium red with ruby highlights. Inky black cherry, licorice and herbs on the nose, lifted by a floral topnote. A bit green and youthfully disjointed, but this boasts subtle sweetness and decent grip for the year. With aeration, this showed a somewhat silkier texture without losing its shape.

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar, June 2008

Deep plummy colour, quite richly extracted yet shows lifted florality on the nose, fragrant and elegant fruit on the palate, a touch of new wood, a supple, seductive and sophisticated wine, very good for the medium term. Drink 2011-17. 4 stars.

Having just had the 2005 La Lagune, which I think is the greatest La Lagune I have ever tasted, the 2006 certainly loses some prestige in comparison, but this is an outstanding wine and further evidence of just how strong this estate's wines have become. Sweet plum and red and black currant fruit, intermixed with notes of resiny pine forest and forest floor as well as a hint of barrique, are followed by a wine with gorgeous depth, an attractive, medium-bodied texture, a fresh, poised personality, and a moderately long finish. This is another beauty, not weighty, but pure, savory, and capable of lasting 15 or more years, although it is accessible already.
