Tertre Rôteboeuf 2009

Tasting Notes

Thanks for those tasting notes...finally had 2009 Tertre Roteboeuf with two friends over the weekend...reminds me of the 2000 but slightly more unctuous...probably higher in alcohol as well, although it didn't taste hot...great, great effort from them...I rated it 96 unblind, and that may be conservative...

In keeping with the personality of the vintage, this is a ripe, extravagant wine of notable power and texture, and it will need time in the cellar to lose some of its fat, but this is a lovely wine, with all the classic signatures of this property in a ripe year.

Rich and burgundian nose. Still quite rich and sweet and generous and very different from most bordeaux 09s. Flattering and floral and fine. So sweet, but lively texture and not dry on the end. Very distinctive. Date tasted 30th March 2010. Drink 2015-2039.

Less explosive aromatically than usual (alcoholic fermentation only finished at the beginning of March!) but rich, ripe and opulent with a huge intensity of fruit. Tannins suave and tender. Voluptuous in style. Drink 2016-2030.

Tasted at the chateau. This finished its alcoholic fermentation 8-10 days ago. This has a supremely pure, delineated bouquet that reminds me of a Grand Cru Burgundy! Blackberry leaf, a touch of raspberry, limestone and just a faint hint of orange-blossom. Very fine definition. There is a little gas on the entry from the fermentation, but the palate is well balanced, nice tension and purity, demonstrating a vibrant sense of minerality. Very linear towards the finish, stricter than the 2008 with a tensile blackcurrant and raspberry finish. Good length. This will surely blossom by the time of bottling, whereupon it may deserve a higher mark. Cerebral (as ever.) Tasted March 2010.
