A brilliant effort from well-known oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2009 Bon Pasteur is dominated by Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc included in the blend. It reveals textbook notes of mocha, tobacco leaf, blackberries, black cherries, roasted coffee and wood smoke. Full-bodied and luscious with a succulent, beautifully textured, multidimensional mouthfeel, low acidity and sweet but noticeable tannin, it is reminiscent of the 1982 Bon Pasteur, which continued to put on weight for a decade or more. If the 2009 does the same, it will come close to equaling that legendary vintage. Drink it over the next 20+ years.
A wine, with bright and intense aromas of raspberries and lemon rind. Full body, with silky tannins and an electrifying acid, fruit balance. A super classy bottle here. Best in years from here. Try in 2017.
Inexpressive nose. Lots of juice and sweetness. Fragrant and very Pomerol. Neat. Date tasted 29th March 2010. Drink 2015-2028.
Ripe, rich and seductive. Dense, concentrated fruit. Superbly textured with fine, velvety tannins. Long finish. Luxurious and opulent - true to the Rolland style. Drink 2016-2030.
Another terrific offering from well-known oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2009 may or may not eclipse their 2005 and 2008, but it offers wonderful notes of caramel, mocha, black cherries, and black currants in a seamless, full-bodied, opulent style. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color, lots of glycerin, superb purity, and a textured, long, concentrated mouthfeel. As always, the brilliance of this team transcends its terroir in Pomerol. Enjoy the 2009 Bon Pasteur over the next 15-20 years. (Tasted once.) Drink 2010-2030.
Tasted at the Pomerol Syndicate tasting. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, this has a ripe plum and macerated black cherry nose, that become quite floral and refined with aeration...but it needs patience to coalesce in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite silky tannin, very good grip with a well defined, quite tannic finish that has excellent freshness and backbone. This is a superb Bon Pasteur from Michel and Dany Rolland. Tasted April 2010.
Full and long, supervelvety and rich, with plum and raspberry. This is a really big Le Bon Pasteur.
