The 2007 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is one of the firmer, more structured wines in this typically forward, charming vintage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berry fruit, plums, sweet spices and smoked meats, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit that's framed by rich, powdery tannins. Still youthful, this is one vintage that showed its best on day two.
Tasted at the Domaine. Again, there is a little reduction on the nose, but it eventually reveals scents of wet flagstones, blackberry and ripe cherry with a touch of undergrowth. The palate is beautifully defined, imbued with a sense of tranquillity and natural ease, the fruits swelling in the mouth and yet all the time retaining a sense of thrilling tension and nervosite. Touches of blueberry and cherry towards the finish. Outstanding. Drink 2012-2025+ Tasted November 2008
